Las Mimosas – A Taste of The Real Ibiza

Las Mimosas -Alexandra Rose Creative

Las Mimosas is a hotel that you wouldn’t necessarily expect to find in The Bay of San Antonio. Tucked away up a quiet dust track, the luxurious-yet-understated boutique suites provide a relaxing break surrounded by nature.

The hotel only opened in June this year and offers a stunning Ibicencan styled living space consisting of 17 suite rooms, all with their own bathroom. The junior suite includes a comfortable sofa bed, for larger families or groups. Continue reading “Las Mimosas – A Taste of The Real Ibiza”

Wi-Ki-Woo – How about you?

Wi-Ki-Woo San Antonio Ibiza

The Wi-Ki-Woo Hotel opened this summer and has quickly attracted a lot of positive attention, mostly from celebrities, fashion designers, brands, bloggers and influencers who want to capture their clothing, models, and themselves looking good, with a background to die for.

We visited back in June to check it out and thought we would give the new addition to the island a chance to ‘settle’ in before we posted about it! Continue reading “Wi-Ki-Woo – How about you?”

Lockside Camden – Tex Mex Heaven

We love Camden. It’s trendy, funky and full of the weird and wonderful.

It has changed drastically over the last two decades. Pop up street food stalls and huts have become the staple of the Lock, with a range of cuisines available from all over the world.

We’re big fans of TexMex food. We like the fusion between Mexico & America with all of their spices, sauces and flavours.

It’s one of our favourites!

Lockside Camden is a well established eat-in restaurant and bar. Perfect for me to relax. Located on the upper walkway inside The Lock, it been open since 2005 and had a refurbishment in January of this year.

With a large outside area overlooking the Lock, it’s great during the warmer months. The perfect spot to enjoy food and a few drinks while you watch the world go by.

Most recently they’ve branched upon a fresh TexMex theme with their ‘Evil Twin’ brand delivering fresh, authentic food bursting with flavour from their creative kitchen.

The chefs are energetic, enthusiastic and bubbly. Just what you want from this type of area.

We sat down at the back of the restaurant after ordering our drinks from the bar. Nattering away about what a fantastic location it was,  and checking out the quirky artwork on the walls.

Within a very reasonable time our food arrived!

A wooden serving board packed with a fabulous array of foods arrived at our table and we tucked straight in!

  • 5 Hour “Hell Yeah” Pork Belly Tacos with
  • Kimchi & Guac, corn tortilla
  • Hot Butter & Siracha Wings
  • Hot Butter & Siracha Wings
  • Jalapeño Poppers, Chipotle Aioli, spring Onions
  • Nacho’s smothered in Queso

The Pork belly was AMAZING! Cooked just right, the juicy flavours just melted in our mouths!

The wings?  We love a wing and these were by far some of the best we’ve ever tasted!

Jalapeño Poppers are no doubt going to have a kick about them and these were kickin’ for all the right reasons!

Very moreish.

And finally the cheesy Nachos…YES, just YES!

The food is tasty, fresh and bursting in flavours and the Kimchi & Guac tortilla was by far our favourite!

They also do some fantastic looking Burgers too!

The vibe is edgy yet chilled, the food is delicious and the drinks are cold. What more could you want from an afternoon in Camden Town?

Bru Coffee & Gelato – Walthamstow, London

Brü Coffee & Gelato – Walthamstow

So on Friday I visited a brand new coffee & dessert restaurant in Walthamstow, East London called Brü.
Don’t be fooled by the name though. According to the manager and business partner Imran, the majority of his customers assume it’s a Scandinavian owned company simply because of the ‘ü’ in the Brü. It is in fact as simple as I thought, it means brew. Being a northern born company (Leicester), the word brew is widely used when referring to tea or coffee, and the two dots above the ‘u’? It’s simply a smiley face!
Imran has a lot of knowledge of the Brü brand, and rightly so. He has worked closely with the owner (his cousin) Hamza to build the company into not one, not two but three venues with it’s third being right here in my home town of Walthamstow.

Their first Brü opened in Leicester three years ago. Specialising in cakes, desserts, ice creams, coffee, tea, sorbets and treats that would even make Willy Wonka himself jealous. Their popularity grew which enabled them to open their second venue in Harrow, North West London a year ago.
Two months ago Brü descended upon Walthamstow in all it’s flavoursome glory and has been a popular favourite with newcomers and locals ever since. Many of whom return on a weekly, and sometimes daily basis which shows that the business is very focused on community relations. They have even been featured in some local publications including The Village E17 listing of the best places to visit in Walthamstow!

bruo

From the second I entered I felt a very warm atmosphere. Happy staff, and even happier customers. I took a seat with my friend and after a short wait, Imran came along with a tray for us. On this tray were hot chocolate drinks, one white and one classic. I should have tried this straight away, but as usual I was too busy nattering so I only got to taste it once it had cooled down. It was still good! I love a hot chocolate.

Next up came the best bit, desserts!
As soon as I looked at the menu I knew I wanted to try the Strawbella Waffle. This mouthwatering dish was filled with Nutella chocolate, topped with Belgian Chocolate, fresh Strawberries and whipped cream. It was beyond amazing. Crispy waffles mixed with melting chocolate, and the cream? A perfect combination! Ideally it was meant to be shared between myself and my friend, but I think I had the majority of it. I’m sorry (I’m not really) but it was just too good in my opinion!

Onto the Cookie Butter Waffle dish. With a filling of Biscoff caramelised cookie spread, drizzled with sauce and topped with a Belgian Speculoos Biscuit, this dish along with the Strawbella are their two most popular options at Brü, and I can see why! Apart from it sticking to the inside of my mouth which was obviously to do with the fact that I shouldn’t have put that much into my mouth in the first place, it was faultless. A thick texture, which is soothed by the cream on the side! Simply scrumptious!

Cookie Waffle

You have to have a serious sweet tooth, or be in need of a major sugar rush to fully appreciate what I had, as the dishes are extremely rich but simply fantastic none the less.

Unlike a lot of dessert venues, Brü caters for those who suffer from allergies. With a range of tasty options available, suitable for everyone, including gluten free varieties, Oatmeal Milk, and eggless cakes. They’re also a Halal eatery. Even their Marshmallows are Halal, perfect for hot Chocolate drinkers this coming winter!

You’d be mistaken for thinking that Brü offers a basic Tea and Coffee selection. That in fact couldn’t be further from the truth. Imran explained to us that they keep all their loose leaf teas in jars on the main counter. The staff are always on hand to explain these wonderful ingredients to you, ensuring you get one that’s perfect for you. A varied option for every palate.

Now I’m not a big tea drinker. I’ve never actually had a cup of typical English tea in my life. The look and smell has always been enough to make me cringe. Brü however doesn’t offer a generic assortment. And this, is a great thing!
I was introduced to a number of choices including Cinnamon Spice, and Fresh Lemon & Ginger before settling on their home made ‘Vanilla Chai’ (decaf) tea.
Strong scents of Cinnamon, Ginger and of course Vanilla came through as soon as I poured it into the cup. I actually ended up having three cups as it was that good! I got a big, gorgeous waft of ‘Christmas’ and ‘winter’ and ‘cosy nights in’ from this drink. It really tasted beautiful!

The decor is what I would class as Retro. An uncluttered, natural design with lots of creative lighting ideas, bookcases and relaxed seating.

The main visible focus of the venue is of course their Ice Cream and Sorbet selection counter. Situated on the right as soon as you walk in, it’s filled with a range of bright colours, flavours and styles….a haven for Ice Cream lovers. I was offered to try some but I literally couldn’t eat any more which was a disappointment because I was eyeing up their Pistachio option as soon as I walked through the door. But I will be back!

Brü is a great place, I see it being very popular with families and kids due to their excellent choice of afters (or before’s if you can’t wait). Whats even better is that their prices are so affordable it’s actually tempting to buy extra just for the sake of it. I however cannot afford another inch on the hips so I won’t do that, but you catch my drift!

Their Tea’s range from £2-£3 and their Waffle dishes are only £3.95! You cannot get better than that on price, and the quality of ingredients can be tasted in every mouthful.
Whats even better is that all their Waffles, Sorbets, Ice Creams etc are made at their production centre in Leicester and delivered to Walthamstow every week!
Brü also sells Sandwiches, Panini’s, Cookies, Sundae’s, non- alcoholic Mojito’s and so much more!

I would thoroughly recommend Brü if you’re in the area. They open at 7am every day and close at 11pm so you really have no excuse not to pop in and try something delicious out!

Orford Saloon Tapas Restaurant – London

Walthamstow Village is like a world of it’s own, located just a few minutes walk from the main overground and underground stations, Orford Saloon is within easy reach from all over London if you’re a fan of authentic Spanish food.

The restaurant is located on Orford Road,  and boasts it’s own deli next door.

Spanish food has always been a firm favourite so it’s always nice to have a genuine place to eat when we’re away from Ibiza.

Rich in its flavours from The Med, this is the number one go-to spot for your Tapas and Paella fix!

Food:

  • Pollo Canario (Skewered Chicken breast in a spicy Canarian sauce)
  • Calamares rebozados (Squid rings)
  • Langostinos a la parrilla (Grilled king Prawns)
  • Champinones con Chorizo (Sautéed Mushrooms with Chorizo)
  • Chuletas de cordero a la parrilla (Flame grilled Lamb cutlets)
  • Bread & Alioli

alcohol, alcoholic, drink

Bread and Alioli is a very bad but very good combination. Bad because it’s so addictive but good because well, it tastes amazing. That kept us going while the dishes were prepared.

The squid sizes were very generous indeed! 6 Portions and cooked exactly how they should be.

Image result for orford saloon tapas dishes

The Grilled King Prawns tasted amazing. Bubbling away in their juices and the heat from cooking, they tasted fresh and again, a pretty generous serving!

The Lamb cutlets came away from the bone with ease and tasted divine. Beautifully tender and cooked medium-rare.

Chorizo & Mushroom’s go perfectly together and this was no exception and the skewered Chicken breast topped the whole experience off wonderfully.

We would thoroughly recommend Orford Saloon if you’re in need of genuine Spanish food and a relaxed atmosphere.

Orford Saloon is situated on 32 Orford Road, Walthamstow, E17 9NJ – 0208 503 6542

Their opening times are a little sporadic so ‘popping in’ can end in disappointment if you don’t know their hours.

It opens from 6pm Monday-Thursday, 12pm-3pm Friday and Saturday 10am-3pm and then 6pm-10.30pm, Sunday they open from 10am-3pm and then 6pm-9.30pm

Popaball

So we’re sure you’ve seen the hype on Twitter recently about the exciting new drinks product from Newcastle based company, Popaball.

The brand specialises in drinks shimmer & glitters which can be added to Prosecco, Vodka Champagne, Cocktails, Mocktails & more!

Stockist’s Lakeland kindly sent us a sample pot of Rose ‘Gold shimmer to try, and the results were fabulous!

See the source image

“Great for Summer”

Last week we visited one of the restaurants manage the PR for, Pivaz and got the diners to try it for themselves.

READ THE BOX!

It advises you of how much Prosecco to put in the glass before sprinkling the shimmer inside.

Stirring the concoction into the glass, the results became quickly visible.

The previously original yellow colour of the Prosecco swiftly turned into a glimmering pinkish delight. This then changed between a pretty pink & gold colour quite rapidly, swirling up and down inside the glass. Pretty mesmerising!

The shimmer adds a sweet touch to the original taste of the drink which didn’t alter it too much. The product is more for look than taste, but it sure looked pretty!

“Looks amazing”

Already a new favourite for upcoming Summer weddings, we think Popaball will do extremely well this year!

Perfect for BBQ’s and glam parties, it really is a conversation starter!

The ladies loved it!

Popaball have a range of sparkly products to choose from!

Perfect for your special event, or cosy night in with friends!

“Beautiful”

From gift sets to single items, Popaball have the perfect choice for your event.

We’re thinking a huge Vodka and Lemonade punchbowl in the summer, with a handsome sprinkling of shimmer.

Perfect!

You can check out their range via their website by visiting http://www.popaball.co.uk

Venerdi Italian Restaurant – London

Image result for venerdi italian restaurant
Venerdi reopened on the 18th February and the amount of interest it has received so far has been positively overwhelming.

It has totally transformed from its previously rustic decor into a stylish and sophisticated eating establishment that oozes class while at the same time, keeping it’s Mediterranean charm with traditional Italian foods on display for all to see.

Photography – Firat Ayas
Venerdi is situated on the trendy Chatsworth Road in Hackney and although the regenerated area offers an array of quirky eateries and other shops, Venerdi really does stand out from the crowd.

It’s now the type of venue which you would find in nearby Shoreditch. Modern and charming, with its brand new traditional wood burning oven, dimly lit feature lighting and impeccably dressed professional bartenders with a serious passion for their trade. The only difference is, Venerdi doesn’t come with the upmarket price tag that a lot of restaurants in Shoreditch tend to charge.

Photography – Firat Ayas
They’ve kept their original menu with some new additions, all for the same great price.

Their famous Pizzas are still on offer in a range of Meat, Fish, Vegeterian and gluten free options, ranging from £7.70 to £13 and are big enough for two people! Their thin crusts and tasty toppings show us why traditional Italian Pizzas are the only ‘real’ Pizzas to eat.
